Weekly Character Spotlight 25:Minya

Postby klen7 » Mon Jun 03, 2013 11:42 pm

I was very tempted to go Gino... in fact that's how i initially set the topic... but i couldn't bring myself to do it once it came time to put up a description... anyway, on to the most controversial kaiju of my youth (before all your Ginos and Dorats)... MINYA!!!

"Son of Godzilla" is one of my favorite films. And this is one of my favorite toys - the 2003 Bear Model release which depicts the classic poignant final scene in the movie (as shown in the 1983 Yamakatsu trading card).

Wow, i've never seen the set. The description at CT says that there less than 80 of these! I have the other Bear model Minya... who apparently turned out to be a huge disappointment because he doesn't live up to this release

I guess Final Wars Minya counts?
Image

I didn't like original design, mostly because of the face. I feel like the one in Final Wars looked more saurian.

I don't think i own any FW Minya figures, but he is more than welcome. (Heisei characters fall out of scope) The Showa design definitely grew on me once i was older. My wife is pretty supportive of my collecting, but whenever she sees a Minya in my collection she asks why i would spend money on something that looks so F&^%$& $%^#@#..

Here is the gashapon from the Bandai HG series

I'd totally forgotten that I had this:

I like the eyes on that YMSF figure even if they aren't entirely accurate.. the eye on this figure however remind me of Brad Garrett from 'Everyone Loves Raymond'

SpaceGodzilla is pretty sure this isn't the kid he's supposed to kidnap.

I kind of really dislike the eyes on the MH,
the parababy figures are great looking though.

I love that Iwakura Minya. So detailed, and yet so small. Thanks klen7 for hooking me up with one. I had been searching for ebay for a long long time before that. I had been using the gashapon as a substitute as the Minya on my shelf. There's something I just don't like about the gashapon. It looks a little too cheery.
