I think the way they plug into the Jaegers is clearly Eva influenced, but other than that, I agree the Eva comparisons are getting a little out of control.

Eva is HARDLY the first Robots vs. Monsters show that was created. Eva didn't invent the wheel.

I thought it was obvious to everyone that Eva was playing with older tropes. I mean, in the 2.22 movie a phone rings with the Science Patrol's ringtone (which is, of course, Ghidorah's roar)!

I dunno, I'm constantly dumfounded when I talk to someone who is a huge fan of something and I end up knowing mare about the influences and forerunners of that particular thing. Finding out the history of your stuff is half the fun!

On the subject of dumb comments about PACIFIC RIM, the comment section under this article is full of them. I was reading it, because well, I'm a bit of a sadist....

http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-tal ... 48659.html

I've got to say the only thing more groan inducing then the dozens of people screaming "Eva Rip-Off" or "Gundam Rip-Off" are those people saying "This movie looks like a Shogun Warriors Rip-Off." Hun, talk about not knowing where something comes from.....

I just had to post in that thread, to set the record straight and rally these people. C'mon man, Eva, Shogun Warriors, Voltron, Godzilla, Gamera, it's an homage to ALL these things and fans of all of them should be saying ""OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" yeah!!" instead of being myopic and "only my favorite will do"
You must show no mercy, nor have any belief whatsoever in how others judge you... for your greatness will silence them all!

Not to be dismissive, but even IF it was an Eva rip-off...like FULL-BLOWN Eva RIPOFF...how many people in the TARGET AUDIENCE would even know?

I'm a fan of toku stuff and I'd never even seen Eva until last year...

Sigh, it seems like those kids don't understand that Eva isn't as original as they think it is. It was actually based off of Space Runaway Ideon.

And Ultraman. Heavily inspired by Ultraman. It's sort of a dark inversion on the whole Ultraman concept.

Wasn't the internet invented to combat this sort of ignorance? It's like between all the p0rn and cat videos, it lost its way. What good are memes and viral videos if they come at the cost of our legacy of giant robots?

There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

As an Evangelion fan, I could care less if it was an exact ripoff. I have Rebuild of Evangelion which is more than enough to satisfy me. Even the nerd haters will probably end up seeing this movie anyways. It all comes down to drawing in new people.
