I really hate the blood stuff in this. Again, why couldn't they have taken blood from one of the sleeping members of Kahn's crew?

It seems more dangerous to me to go after khan than it would be to draw blood from a sleeping person... you don't have to wake them up - just keep them in an induced coma. And even if you do wake them up, just have every security officer on the ship standing there with phasers drawn.

You could theorize that it may not work if the blood is in stathis but I don't buy that even as an excuse, simply because Bones never even raises it as a possibility. The movie makes it look like he thinks only Khan has that blood. Which in turn makes him look like an idiot.

And So is there no more death in this universe?

And at the end Bones says he used Khan's blood to synthesize a serum to give Kirk. Which means that should be able to replicated forever now. So I guess there's no more death.

My problem was really all of the Khan reference stuff, but I don't think nobody can die. There's a lot of stuff that you can't come back from, or so I'd imagine. I really wish they'd just told the whole Starfleet is up to shady stuff plot and left Khan alone.

And there are tons of lapses in logic and I think ALL of them go back to the inclusion of Khan. Blech.

My impression was that Kirk never actually died. He was unconscious and maybe presumed dead but wasn't quite there yet when they got him to sick bay. So he was given the serum while his body was technically still alive, barely. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

Either way, count me as one who liked the movie. It's not perfect and can certainly be picked apart if you want to, but it had great characters with good dialogue and a fun story. There were plenty of fun nods to past Trek stuff and fun new twists. And I liked what they did with the third act mirroring the original Wrath of Kahn but with a twist. It was fitting.

And Spock was freaking awesome. That final fight was great. My wife and I both cheered when he broke out the nerve pinch (which was awesome to see it being the one thing that really hurt Kahn, but even it wasn't enough!).

I think it was every bit as entertaining as the first Abrams Star Trek, which I thought was also great. And that's all I really wanted. An entertaining film that is clearly Star Trek, but also fresh and new and I think both films deliver. They've definitely been better than anything from something like the Marvel universe (save for the avengers). I don't dislike the marvel films, they've all just kinda been ok.

But maybe I'm the audience these new Trek films are made for. I never liked Star Trek as a kid. As an adult I've found that I do, in fact, enjoy it (TOS is the best, IMO), but I also don't carry any real baggage about what it should or shouldn't be. As long as its entertaining and hits the right notes most of the time to feel like Star Trek, I'm happy.

Oh, and just one more thing. While I dislike the Khan rehashes, I felt like using Khan's blood makes more sense to me than the Vulcan Katra does.
