While I enjoy the continuity of the Heisei films as a sort of experiment, I certainly prefer the looser approach of the Showa and Millenium eras (even if I feel the latter ended up overall the worst era of Godzilla, it's certainly not because of this aspect).

As to the ambiguity about where to place things like Frankenstein Conquers the World, War of the Gargantuas, and King Kong Escapes relative to the Godzilla continuity, that's a big part of the fun and a major aspect of what drew me from casual fandom into serious dedication to the series.

It reminds me of Greek mythology. The various stories can't possibly be drawn together into one coherent chronology, but many of the stories can be interrelated, and figuring out ways to make different portions make sense together is a fun exercise, all the moreso because there is no single, cohesive whole. It's like a rubik's cube without a solution (in other words, one you can keep playing forever).
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Miki was a great character in Biollante, and worthless in every single other film except MAYBE Destoroyah.

I just finished watching this. Damn. I'm so glad I wasn't one of those people who watched it in 89. I would have walked out of the theater so pumped for the next movie.

but the next movie was vs. King Ghidorah. >_>
Poor fans.
