^ That's true as well. When people ask me what movie I'm looking forward to the most this summer and I say Pacific Rim I get a lot of blank stares. Sometimes after I describe the film someone will say they've heard of it but didn't remember the name, again a sign that they needed to change the title (too late for that). Over six years working in the movie theater industry and I can't emphasize how much a good title can do for a film. Your movie can be garbage but if it has a catchy title and an interesting poster people will see it, because frankly the average movie goer doesn't research the films they see before hand. They just show up at the theater and decided there to see whatever they think looks good, i.e looks good on a poster.
Also while I'm a huge fan of GTD (ever since I saw MIMIC back in '97) I actually think the man is bad at self promotion. He knows genre and film geeks love him and caters to them (hence all these comic con. exclusive trailers) but doesn't appear to think about how to sell his movie to the general public.
And like the rest of you I am also baffled by the fact that WB/Legendary is choosing to hide the Kaiju and focus on the robots. If that is their marketing strategy it's a terrible one. It isn't building anticipation amongst audiences for the monsters, right now audiences don't seem to be clear that there are monsters in this movie. Also, though I loath to say it, what it most reminds me of is Sony's marketing strategy for Godzilla '98 back in the day. Hide the monster!
I'm also skeptical as to whether or not we will see a new trailer before June when Man of Steel comes out which WB/Legendary's other big release this year. Before that the only other film (I think) WB/Legendary has coming out is The Great Gatsby in May, which doesn't seem like the right film to attach a Pacific Rim trailer too. So yeah if we don't see anything else before June they are going to be cutting it real close.
