Yeah it wasn't the execution of the Abomination but the generally lacklustre design.
As for the five souls things, the reason I'm asking is that I didn't read the past few pages to avoid spoilers. Still, I really don't think it works out. I doubt David was possessed before he was incinerated. The thing is, yeah, he's not sure of the rules but it shows three methods to cleanse the possessed.
And we see the burial thing work. The rest of the people in the cabin are burned. So the only one that could potentially have been taken was the mother since we don't see exactly what happens to her.
I dunno, I just felt it worked better in the old one when the only rule was that when you read from the book awful things happened.
When I say generic possessed, yeah they behave like Deadites, but it felt like these were just any kind of demon and not specifically the Candarian Demons of the old films.
Again, I still thought the movie was alright, but I still have those problems with it.
Oh, and I didn't care for the after credits thing. It's just Ash in a dark room saying Groovy for no apparent reason. :/
