Didn't read the spoiler, but that's another thing I'm excited for, everyone who's mentioned it has claimed it's for the fans of the old trilogy. Really excited for this :D

Here's a great interview with Campbell.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/61777

I love his bit about how audiences are smart and how he knew how they had to bring it. And how he was on set and sitting in during the post production process, basically being hands on with the entire production.

It was also amusing when he made fun of fans talking about the sanctity of the "trilogy."

Basically, Bruce Campbell is the best human being of all time.

That's an awesome poster. I love any poster that's not just an actor standing there with sparks flying around.

Just saw it and thought it was immensely entertaining. It was pretty much everything I wanted it to be.

-Nods to the originals without replicating them

-GREAT gore, although not as gorey as the originals and maybe not as gory as the hype wanted you to think. But yup, all practical and all AWESOME. Aside from someone getting set on fire towards the beginning I don't notice a single digital effect.

-I thought the characters were every bit as fleshed out as the characters in the first films (if not more so in some instances) and I thought Mia was a GREAT lead.

-The opportunity to tie the the new films to the trilogy is definitely there. You could call this a remake OR a loose sequel that follows the same formula as the originals.

-There is still some humor in there, even if the movie is more serious. There's some one liners uttered in true Evil Dead tradition.

-There are several moments where you think the story is going to go one way and it subverts those expectations, which I liked a lot.

My only complaint is I wish there was a bit more payoff when it came to killing the deadites... seems like they just kept getting offed in fairly mundane ways instead of the insane dismemberments of the original films.

The post-credits stinger isn't as much of a big deal as pre-release hype would lead you to believe... as it stands, its just a fun Easter egg for fans, but if they ever decide to take it further, that opportunity is there also.

So shut up and go see Evil Dead!

This is definitely in the upper echelon of horror remakes...

Great stuff... I want a sequel (and I'd LOVE to see Sam do Army Part 2 and have the crossover seventh entry but I doubt that'll happen)... I just hope its not in the cabin AGAIN. You can consider this movie many things... remake, reboot, sequel, reimagining, whatever... all those words can be accurate in one way or another, but it doesn't matter because when you get down to it, this movie is more than a fine enough horror movie to stand on its own and it is a welcome entry to the ED franchise. Is it as good as the original three films? No, but that doesn't mean anything... its still a good movie and that's what matters.

Evil Dead - 4/10 - It was pretty damn boring. It took itself way too seriously, had some of the dumbest characters ever, and was stupid. Not funny stupid, just stupid. The last 15 minutes of the movie is the only thing that was enjoyable. In fact, even the Necronomicon's design was flat and bland. Oh, and what was the point of the brother's girlfriend? Did they even actually give her a name? I don't remember as she was pretty much just wallpaper.

I loved it.

I think it's exactly an Evil Dead movie. My audience seemed to really groove on the dark humor, and though Mouth says there's no a ton of humor, I think this movie could honestly qualify as a black comedy. By black, I mean, BLACK, deep dark and twisted humor.

This movie did everything I wanted it to. It had enough callbacks to the originals to feel like an Evil Dead movie with things like the first-person camera through the woods, and there really are times where this feels like a Sam Raimi movie in such a way that it could have said, "Directed by Sam Raimi" at the end, and I would have not been in the least surprised. BUT it also did some different stuff, which, let's be honest, each and every movie in the Evil Dead series does.

OK, so for those who haven't seen it, I'm just gonna white out the rest as being spoilery:

Things I didn't like:
-The black girl and the girlfriend don't seem to meet the qualifications set forth for "death" and so I would have liked to see them pop up even for just a second before the house burned down.
-99% of stuff is done with practical effects, so what was with the CGI blood when the girlfriend's second arm gets blown off? It was just weird because it was JARRING.
-I thought they could have done a little bit more to develop David and explain why the people in the movie other than Mia were pissed at him.
-Maybe a little TOO on the nose with Mia battling her demons at the end.

Things I liked:
-Buckets of blood.
-David. The guy was a decent actor so it was fine for him to carry the movie even if I wanted more from his characterization.
-Mia. I thought she was great and I really loved how they set up everyone being hesitant to believe in the supernatural because of her going cold turkey. That was honestly great.
-The way Eric was a CLEAR callback to Scotty from the first film. Getting riped battered beaten and stabbed to crap before finally dying.
-The most unnattractive girl-on-girl action in a movie EVER.
-Ash's car's cameo and Ash's cameo.
-The blood rain and the final demon showdown.
-De-demonization. That's a new and different twist on this series and I really liked it. If you think about it the first ED is a gritty gorey horror film and the deadites are STRONGLY linked to the book. The second is a buckets-o-blood horror comedy and the deadites are nigh indestructible. The third is an action comedy. This one is more serious, but with the new twist that the deadites can be defeated without sacrificing the person possessed. I liked that twist.

END SPOILERS (for now)
Like Mouth said, the movie takes some unexpected twists, which really kept it feeling fresh but the callbacks to the originals keep it feeling like an Evil Dead film.

Evil Dead might just be the only film franchise where I like EVERY. SINGLE. ENTRY. This is a welcome addition to the family. Good stuff.

And oh yeah, I want a sequel, and I'd LOVE an Ash/new series crossover.

As usual, don't listen to Dr. Kain, I think he saw a different movie. GO SEE IT! SUPPORT THIS TYPE OF MOVIE!

Nobody listen to Kain. He's wrong but I don't even wanna get into why.

Took itself too seriously? I'd say the original ED is still the most serious entry.

This movie rules and was an Evil Dead movie through and through.
