Mouth...regarding Stoker. I really want to see that movie, it just gets harder to do things like that once your married and none of your friends are into horror movies. I'm sure I can rationalize an occasional trip to the theatre alone, hence Evil Dead, but I don't want to spend money on going to the theatre nearly two weeks in a row. It's a once a month thing at best.

I much prefer to rent movies these days...wait for a night when I have the house to myself, order some wings and sit down with a beer. It's just infinitely more fun than sitting in a theater alone. It has nothing to do with the quality of Stoker, it's just that I'm a little more excited to see Evil Dead.

Thief of Bagdad ('40)

I love this movie so much! It has everything: a daring young hero, an evil sorcerer, cowardly sultan, true love, curses, monsters, criss-crossing prophesies, side-quests, and (of course) a giant genie.

This time I noticed just how the film is divided into two halves. The first half is all about Ahmed and his love story with Abu as a sidekick, the second half is all about Abu volleying around every Arabian Nights adventure trope to help his friend. I like how in never strikes you as a tonal shift, and that both halves reflect and compliment one another.

The Thing (1982)

Apparently, my sister and father have a recent tradition of watching scary movies on the weekends. I joined them this week and recommended this which they apparently knew nothing about.

They liked it very much and have been talking about it since.

Cosmopolis - They'd have to create new words for me to describe just how much a loathed this...this...THING. I haven't hated a movie and felt it utterly dismissible as complete and utter garbage this much in a long, LONG time. This was one of the singular worst wastes of time of my ENTIRE LIFE, and I've had entire days that were almost literally wasted sitting on the couch, watching re-runs of TV shows I've seen dozens of times. To think that I actually sat down and spent an hour and forty five minutes of my life watching this dreck actually irritates me a little bit. I'd rather eat a bowl full of mushrooms, and I HATE mushrooms. I'd rather watch a special edition of The Fifth Element that replaces every single actor with Chris Tucker screaming for 95 minutes. I'd rather write a college-level thesis on the GOOD things about Michael Bay, and his positive contributions to film. Holy God, what a complete and utter pile of garbage. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrribel. TtEtrribel. Terribel. Terrible. Terrible. Terreibel. Terreibe.le. TTERRIBEL> TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE1 TERRIBL! TERRIBLE! TEERIBL! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE!

Me and Alex liked Cosmopolis but I won't pretend I don't understand why someone would hate it.

^meh. Books and movies are different things. Maybe it works in a book, i dunno and after this sh*tfest i have zero desire to find out, but in a movie it comes off as alienating and pompous. I cant slow down dialogue to re-listen to it to make sure it makes sense and isnt just inane nonsensical babbling. Nobody in this piece of crap ever stops talking...they just turow out a cornucopia of lengthy and slightly ambiguous "theory" in what amounts to something the SOUNDS smart, but who knows or cares if it actually is. (Spoiler alert: its not. Its just douchey)
