I always kind of assumed that Coyote Tango would be the legendary Jaeger based on how little we've seen of it, the age of the blueprint image, and it being Japanese.

I agree that the more "negative" review was honest and well thought out, even if it didn't elaborate on all of its points enough. But I also don't feel like it described a bad movie. I just saw the new Die Hard. THAT is a bad movie.

For me personally, as long as I get enough monster/robot action and decent enough human drama, I'll be fine.

My standards for monster flicks are admittedly fairly low. I mean, I give stuff like the Heisei movies, GFW and Prometheus a pass, despite being flawed as f*ck. I'm not expecting the best thing ever, just a decent monster/robot mashup.

I think a lot of people are setting themselves up for disappointment if they think this is going to be the next Star Wars or even the next Avatar. I was the one telling everyone that Prometheus, despite being an Alien prequel directed by Ridley Scott, was still going to be a prequel to a long running out-of-gas series and was being made by someone who hadn't made a good movie in well over a decade and not to get their hopes up... and sure enough, I was the guy that dug it.

I think the way movie marketing is in the internet age, movies are hyped up way more than they ever should be and unfortunately, a lot of people fall for it.

I think the film will be fine. My reservations have little to do with any kind of marketing, but the basic premise. I've seen the concept of Mecha vs. Alien Beasts/Monsters/Other robots done a million times, and some of them have been amazing. I just don't think Pacific Rim is going to offer anything new on the subject other than "THIS TIME IT'S LIVE ACTION!".
