The Possible Future of Ultraman Sorta (Please Read!)

Hey, everyone! I don't want to make this too public yet but we like you folks here at Monster Zero so we were wanting to see if you could give us a little feedback! Please read this and share your thoughts with us. :)

There are rumblings around Lobsterdance about taking our shenanigans to the next level and possibly organizing into a proper company. Had MechaSorta been completed a year or two ago ( ), it wouldn't be much of a problem for us but now that we may be on the verge of being a legal entity, we wouldn't be able to safely associate ourselves directly with an elaborate fanfilm. Mind you, we will still finish it regardless but if it were completed as a fanfilm, we would essentially have to under-promote it under a different production company name and sweep it under the rug.

So a new thought has started seeping into our collective brainwaves. Nowhere in the script thus far is the name "Ultraman" mentioned and none of our major special effects scenes have been shot yet (we've focused on the dramatic portions first). This means that it's feasible that the story could be nigh-seamlessly fashioned into a film featuring the same overall plot but a brand new hero with very little extra effort on top of what we already have to finish. It's such a simple prospect that we could probably do it and still finish it in time for a GFEST 2013 premiere later this year. Then we would have a property that is far easier for us to promote and possibly even make some money off of in the future as we move forward.

My question to you then is should we? Is anyone so attached to the Sorta that they would be offended that the now-mythical Ultraman Sorta 3 is hijacked by a brand new hero? Or would you possibly prefer originality to a fanfilm? Does anyone actually care? If anyone has ANY thoughts on the matter whatsoever, we urge you to please share them with us so that we can make the most well-informed decision possible

TL;DR - Should we scrap Sorta and put a new hero into the same plot?

Thanks a ton!

Side note: This only affects MechaSorta (episode 3) and not Ultraman Sorta vs. Godzilla Starring Matt Frank the Movie. That's still a thing that will remain a fanfilm through and through. And this also doesn't necessarily mean the end of Sorta as a character forever, just a rethinking of how we handle him in the future.

Indeed, Jared popped the idea to me and though I was like "hmm, but we've already promoted MechaSorta," I had to admit the idea made sense. As long as, you know, people didn't feel shorted by having it become something else.

We do have delightful little ideas for small adventures Sorta will have. Been thinking about those long before this idea, so yeah, that'll still be a thing.

So it's all dependent on what the peeps think!

I was going to put in my two cents, but as they are talking about eliminating the penny, I'm hoarding all of mine to sell as collector items in my old age.

So here is my five cents:
If you want to do this, GO FOR IT! I've enjoyed the Sorta episodes, but if you have a chance to start up professionally doing this you would be crazy not to make the move. You have the vision, and if you are still are planning on going to Japan to get the experience in tokusatsu (iirc) then you will get valuable experience.

Remember, the current craze in superhero movies and tv shows began in no small part because fanboys who loved the characters and stories started making the shows and movies they wanted to see as kids. Bruce Timm, Bryan Singer, Sam Raimi, hell even Ben Affleck, they are all fans. So maybe you can be one of those who help shape the way people look at giant heroes and monsters in the days after the (hopefully) successful Pacific Rim and Godzilla films spark an interest in that genre.

So, yes I would miss the Ultraman Sorta epic you have worked on. But if you are changing your focus into something similar, but all your own, I can live with that disappointment.

Ok, I probably owe you another nickel. :)
