Weekly Character Spotlight #11: Daimajin!

Postby canofhumdingers » Tue Feb 12, 2013 3:34 pm

Sorry for the late start, I've just been too busy to get to this until now. Gotta have priorities...

Anyway, without further ado, this week I present to you: Daimajin! God of Terror. Feel the wrath of his vengance!

This is the first figure in a series of three by Kaiyodo/Xebec. Similar to the Gamera and Iris figures they did around the time of Gamera 3, he is cast in heavy solid vinyl with numerous cut joints for articulation. He also comes with removeable/swappable parts (stone & living faces, fists and gripping hands, his sword, the spike in his head) as well as some really cool accesories (the evil warlord, all the chains - which, btw, are REAL working metal chains and in scale with the figure!!). This figure represents Majin from his first appearance but Kaiyodo/Xebec made equally cool figures of his second and third as well. It stands between 6 and 7 inches tall and is so well done that I've never bought another Daimajin figure b/c this one is everything I could want from one!

Good looking figure. If i were a betting man i would have bet our first non-Godzilla spotlight would have been Gamera related. It'll be interesting to see what kind of Daimajin figures people have.

Alas, I'd gone in to work by the time this was posted, and my Revoltech Daimajin is at home. I just asked the fiancee to try to snap a couple of pictures of it and email them over to me; she's a much better still photographer than I am, anyway.

That Kaiyado is really nice, especially with the chains. I almost bought the Revoltech, but managed to resist.

So the only thing I have of the Daimajin is my attempt to sway one of the viewing thread polls. :)

Here is my first excursion into the use of glow in the dark paints, a custom commission using the Sega Daimajin sculpt.
The GID paints are rather expensive but the glow effect is quite stunning!

Well, Jenn didn't have time to take the pictures this afternoon, so I took them myself when I got home. Probably for the best, as I realized later that she didn't know where the myriad swappable parts are stored. So, without further ado, Revoltech Daimajin:

Finally a thread I can take part of again!!!

I've downsized my Daimajin collection to only one figure, but I believe it's the best one on the market...the 25cm X Plus!!

A couple more, first this cool green translucent masked Daimajin from Marusan (2005):

And the Marmit Parababy Daimajin exclusive (with mini masked accessory) from the 2004 Tokyo Toy Festival:

Not my entire collection but this is certainly the smallest Daimajin in it, just 2" tall and quite rare!

The expression on that toy's face is kind of horrifying.
