The third entry is different enough to distract you from the fact that Majin's summoning is also rather quick and not enough tension is built up before he opens a major can of unholy whoopass on the badguys. That said, the adventure of those four brave little kids makes the film unique & fun enough to stand on its own without being too much of a carbon copy of the first movie. But each movie is a wonderfully grim little fairy tale of its own.
If nothing else, Jelly, the third act of each film, where Majin begins wrecking havok makes this disc worth the price of admission. The top notch FX work in the vengence & destruction scenes, with such an impressive-looking and inspired anti-hero, plus the amped up (and well-deserved) violence wrought against the despicable villains are worth every penny. Ifukube's thundering scores rachet up the power of the visuals 100-fold. These scenes alone merit multiple viewings and lose none of their impact over time; it's every bit as satisfying to watch those villainous scumbags get what's coming to them the 30th time as it did the first time.
Gee... can you tell that I really, really LOVE these movies?
