The only other Trek movies that come close to Wrath of Khan are Undiscovered Country and First Contact. After that I put the new Trek, Search for Spock and Voyage Home in some grand spotlight. The rest are a free-for-all. But that said, I don't find the other Next Gen movies to be nearly as bad as some people make them out to be.

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

I really like DS9 too, but I think the first season (and the second, though not to the same degree) was really just following up on TNG. In season 3, you have episodes like "The Abandoned", "Heart of Stone", and "Explorers" (a personal favorite) that are all reliant on interpersonal relationships, which is something TNG did very poorly. DS9 is well known for its long-running Dominion War arc, but I think its real strength is in the evolving character relationships in the later seasons. Except for the Kirk-Spock-McCoy trio in the original series, this is an aspect greatly missing from the other Trek shows.

I wish that Deep Space Nine or Voyager get their own series of post TV series movies, the way that the first series and Next Generation did.

I cannot imagine a meaningful follow-up movie to DS9 that would be remotely comprehensible to audiences unfamiliar with the series.

I hope Paramount comes to their senses and looks for someone more appropriate. I'm not looking for an overly Trekkie Trek movie, I don't think the feel of the many series fit major motion pictures. (Thank you TMP for the cure to insomnia, though.) But I do want an enjoyable sci-fi flick worth giving thumbs up like the last two flicks. Alas, it seems Paramount is really rushing this for the 60th Anniversary.

EDIT:

Thought I'd ease the bloodlust:

[quote]The director’s reps deny that Chu is connected to the film. Via email, they said “No one has contacted Jon or his reps about this project.â€

I don't imagine the Chu thing panning out because he's doing He-Man/G.I. Joe 3 stuff right now...or starting to.

Oh! Now that's far more interesting. I've been wondering what he would do next and was disappointed when he exited the Apes sequel. Yeah, give it to some new, fresh blood who has some talent in his fingers. I'm all for that.

I know this sounds odd... But I've been watching a lot of Trek documentaries lately "Trekkies" (1&2) The Captains, and on Netflix a new five episode extrapolation of "The Captains" documentary, I even saw one (the name of which I cant remember) with Gene Roddenberry's son, who tried to discover through Trek fandom information about his father to whom he was estranged. Anyway, I find these documentaries more fascinating than some of the episodes of the actual shows.

Additionally after seeing Into Darkness (which I did enjoy), can we officially say that becoming a Star Fleet Admiral will result in corruption, is almost as cliche' as the death of a Red Shirt guy? Seriously, Kirk is the only Admiral (who got demoted and promoted back a couple of times) I know of that didn't let it corrupt him. I remember seing Janeway's cameo in Nemesis as an Admiral and thinking... ooh she's up to something. Thankfully that continuity ended or else she probably would have turned bad :-\
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.
