Sadly, Roger Langridge's wonderful Popeye book will end at issue 12. It's retroactively being labeled a 12 issue miniseries instead of an ongoing - but hey, it was originally only supposed to be 4 issues, and there's still several months to go before we run out of new material! Classic Popeye will apparently continue - perhaps the market couldn't handle two Popeye ongoings and a cheaply produced book of reprints is more economically viable for IDW? I know they were surprised by how well Classic did, so that leads some credence to that theory. The Mars Attacks Popeye book coming out this month leads me to believe that more Popeye one-shots and minis in the future (and, err, the fact that there's a big-budget movie in a few years).
I got the latest Blacksad book for Christmas, collecting the forth 50+ page album of this noir detective book (the first three albums were collected into a single hardcover). I cannot recommend this series enough. It has
the most beautifully rendered comic book art I have ever seen. Each page is an incredibly detailed painting, and the only problem is that you may interrupt the flow of the story by stopping and looking at the same page for several minutes at a time.
Well, we've got a new year on our hands and amid my more serious and meaningful resolutions I'd also like to, for personal pleasure, resolve to double down on my desire to read more comics! I'll try to read some comic every day, a whole graphic novel, a single issue, a short story, or some old strips. Anything!
