I feel like I could go on and on about why I agree with some of the guy's thoughts...but not right now, I'm at work

That implies that I go out of my way to find movies and stuff that I don't like which is...um....wrong.

I'm the type of guy who likes the Showa Gamera stuff as much as the much lauded Hesei Gamera trilogy. I enjoy a lot of crap. But I also feel...and that's the best word to describe it...I feel that Hollywood has room for both approaches to genre films...dark/serious stuff as well as the more "kiddy" stuff. Thing is...Marvel has done it one way traditionally, and DC seems to be following the opposite path. I prefer the Marvel way because not every character should be Batman. I still wanna see some Nolan-esque films though now again but I also want to counter-balance it with a Thor or something.

I'm watching The Avengers cartoon right now...one of the best cartoons in decades and it really makes me appreciate how even in cartoon format, a good balance of fun/light with high stakes can be found without making things go super dark for characters who aren't all that dark. I also like that the villains in that cartoon are who they are...no back stories....no tragic history...they're just bad guys with crazy ass names and superpowers.

I don't agree with everything this guy says but I find it refreshing that the article is like the anti-matter to all the Nolan-fanboys. I seriously find Nolan fanboys to be one of the most annoying groups on the internet.

Back to my original point though. Am I seriously that negative?? I was actually pointing out that I wanted things to be lighter when it made sense. How does that make me want to hate on things? There's one film I've hated this year and that was The Amazing Spider-man. That makes me negative?

I think The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises both coming out in the same year shows that Hollywood isn't sticking to just one style of superhero movie. The fact that there's even a debate about what the tone of comic book films should be seems more of a testament to some people wanting everything to fit one single style than anything else.

Am I the only one who didn't think The Amazing Spider-Man was all that "dark/gritty" like so many reviews have labeled it? Sure, the poster features Spidey almost in silhouette and the movie isn't as kooky as Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, but there's still plenty of outright humor and flirty scenes between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy set to acoustic guitar music, and watching the Lizard run into the street waving around canisters of green gas just looked silly, not menacing. If I had to describe that movie's tone in one word, it would be plain.

call me a Nolan fanboy if you like, but i've seen very few legitimately good criticisms and complaints about his films. 99% of the people who dislike a Nolan movie strike me as railing back against the Nolan fanboys or simply having a different taste.

Oh, I'm not a Nolan hater. I respect the hell out of the guy because of what he's been able to achieve creatively in such a commercial industry. His stuff just doesn't crank my tractor as much as you average nerdy type.

It's all just taste.

... but I loved the rotating hallway bit in Inception. Loved it!
