The Golden Voyage of Sinbad - I feel as if I should have enjoyed this movie more than I did. I liked the statue of Kali, and Caroline Munro's presence will pique my interest in anything, but I felt there wasn't much else here for me. The characters aren't very substantial, but more damningly, I didn't care much for the bestiary, apart from Kali and maybe the centaur. All told, I find it kinda bland and uninteresting. Where Harryhausen's Sinbad movies are concerned, this one's at the bottom of the list. 7th Voyage ranks first, and in second place, of course, would be...

Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger - It's not quite as good as 7th Voyage, but then again, few things are. This one is pretty fun, with a variety of locales and creatures to keep things interesting. Honestly, my biggest two problems are with the pacing, which flags a bit at times, and the giant walrus, which could've either been cut or replaced with something more interesting. Otherwise, I can't find much to complain about. The sabre-toothed tiger is cool (which, considering it was trapped in a block of ice, is only natural), and the wasp freaks me out even more than the spider from Krull.

In the past two days, somewhere in between family get-togethers and last-minute shopping, I've watched the Rifftrax Christmas Shorts-Stravaganza (my favorite post-MST3K thing ever!) and the MST3K version of the gonzo Mexican film Santa Claus. On the Rankin Bass front I've watched Frosty the Snowman and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. I'm beginning to think that the former is the best Christmas special they ever did. I think the story, songs, and characterizations are far stronger than the more popular Rudolf.

Django Unchained - Not Tarantino's best movie, but it was very good and better than most of what I have seen this year. Any scene with Jackson and Dicaprio is pure gold.

A Christmas Story - I watch it on TBS a few times every year. This year was no different.

Also, my wife and I have been watching Dexter. I loved the first season, but the second season was a little 'meh'. Michael C. Hall is great as Dexter, though.

Blade Runner Final Cut - I love this movie and I do not know why. The story seems very convoluted, the ending doesn't really make a lick of sense, but I cannot resist loving it. I saw it for the first time when it came out on BD and am glad to own the new Digibook release of it as I love Digibooks. One day I might actually sit down and watch the theatrical version so I can understand why it is considered to be horrible.
