Even putting aside BB and TDKR, I honestly, truly feel that the Dark Knight is a defining film of a generation in terms of genre films in pop culture. That is up there with Raiders of the Lost Ark and Empire Strikes mBack in that regard. And no I don't think X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, etc come close. Avatar might have it beat in box office but for the #1 movie of all time, it goes relatively untalked about so I wouldn't even put that up there. Avengers has a chance to be one of those films but we will have to wait a few years and see how time evaluates its place in pop culture.

Call me a fanboy or say its hyperbole but that's my honest to god opinion.

I'm with you, MFW. TDK has most certainly become a pop culture milestone for cinema... and these kinds of movies are increasingly rarer with each decade.

I honestly think that stuff won't have legs. It's hot for one age group only for the most part and most of them won't be watching anymore after a few more years.

People are going to be showing their kids the Batman movies, LOTR, Harry Potter, Avengers; etc for decades. Twilight is to young girls what Bay's Transformers is for young boys. It's hot now but it won't have the same lasting legs. Nobody in 20 years is going to be showin their kids Twilight. It's a flash in the pan.
