Seen the trailer for this recently...:kitty: Honestly, not all that impressed with what I've seen thus far (prior to the first trailer, I felt that this film was being over-hyped during its production because A) Many fans want this be like a Japanese daikaiju flick *so bad*...and B) Guillermo del Toro's fanatical following by some. I like Guillermo del Toro, but this pedestal many people put him on is ridiculous...he's good, but not *THAT* good  ) . The robots look extremely boring and generic to boot..."Real Steel" is calling and wants their robots back :th-dn: I often hear this film being mentioned in the same sentence as "daikaiju" or how it's supposedly a homage to that genre or that there is a "definite Japanese vibe/influence!", but honestly, if the trailer is any indication, it's just another CGI fest and seems to have far more in common with films like Clash/Wrath of the Titans than it does with Godzilla.

It's no wonder the Godzilla teaser received a far bigger fan reaction than this during Comicon....

Whatever. I mean, if you can't tell the obvious influence of various Japanese genres (mech, kaiju, etc), I don't know what to tell you.

It seems like just because it isn't an exact replication of the Japanese, people write it off as being "Another American CGI-Fest" (whatever that means- I thought by now everyone had realized that American genre blockbusters have pretty much gone all CGI- what outdated logic)- The movie is INFLUENCED by the Japanese stuff, it isn't out there to replicate it. Even GDT has said as much as that its there to be its own thing, despite taking cues from the Japanese. Its still a Western sci-fi blockbuster and it never pretended to be a tokusatsu film.

As for GDT, he's done more than enough to earn his following. Whether you like his films as much as most people or not is one thing, but he's more than carved out his rightful place in modern genre films. I think Tarantino is way overhyped and overrated, but I'm still a fan and I still have no problem recognizing what he's added to film and pop culture. All these big directors have their overzealous fanboys, but I don't feel like that should take away from their efforts or induce eyerolls when a project is met with enthusiasm. I dislike James Cameron and the majority of his films, but I'd never put someone down who looks forward to a new Cameron film because I recognize that he's more than earned his place.

Also, this looks nothing like a Titans film. Aside from CG monsters, I can't think of a single thing they'd have in common.

Ebirahsmeh is just doing what he does man. He stirs up "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" and then claims, when anyone has any sort of malice towards him after he's insulted you and insinuated that you're an idiot and everything you like is stupid, that he's an innocent care bear who is being treated unfairly by us all.

This is his schtick. All of us who hang out in the figure collecting forums know it well.

I can honestly say I agree with some of his points, but the hostile way in which he went about framing those points completely negates anything meaningful he was trying to say.

Nothing to see here...move along...
