Merian Cooper has said in an interview he never intended KK to have the racist/sexual overtone that people accused it of having.

This is true...

If true, it's even better that PJ did away with them explicitly

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Oh, very true!

Dude, it's like you've been in my mind or something. I like the PJ Kong design well enough. It might be my favorite film Kong design.

Though I think I prefer the slightly more humanoid versions of Kong like

And here

Thing is PJ's Kong could have worked for me had it behaved more monster like. Eat some humans and dinosaurs for instance. I'm a huge Kong fan too, I have every film of Kong's. He's prob my third favorite monster after Gamera and the Gillman. (Godzilla is 4th). I love the story of Kong, it's perfection. There are so many things that PJ's Kong did right but it also did a whole lot wrong.

Godzilla will always be #1 for me, but Kong is easily in my top 5. Btw... is that first pcture the McFarlane King Kong? A friend of mine had that toy a few years back. I almost forgot how awesome looking it is.

Part of what isnpired the original Kong, as I understand it, was Cooper's disappointment upon seeing a real gorilla, after having heard tales about what huge, ferocious beasts they were.

The goal with King Kong wasn't to create a real gorilla, it was to create a visualization of the rumors of how terrifying a gorilla could be.

Check out this clip for the Japanese premiere of King Kong Lives (or King Kong 2 as it was called over there).
