Nexus vs. The Next

Postby king_ghidorah » Fri Nov 02, 2012 3:09 pm

Felt like stirring things up a little. Look, I'm not saying you can't enjoy both because I do. I f'n love both. The Next really made me believe in a modern interpretation of Ultraman, but for me...Nexus took everything that worked in The Next and took it to the next level and reintroduced some more Ultraman tropes like the Science Patrol Team-sorta group. I like how the power of Ultraman jumped through the multiple different hosts in the series. I liked each one for different reasons. The first Ultraman host really had that "big brother" like quality to him. I really came to like the 2nd host as well. I personally identify, and respect, someone who can take the pain in their lives and turn it into some sort of zen, aloofness that's brimming with compassion underneath. The final host was a great everyman and really made the introduction of Noa into something special. The female host felt under utilized but that's prob due to the series being canceled.

Anywho, what are your prefrences? The Next or Nexus? (One last time, I'm just asking you to chose between two different examples of greatness. I think they're both amazing, just trying to start a discussion, not a flame war)

I don't know if I can compare, because I do like The Next because I can pop it in the dvd player and watch it whenever, but Nexus has a lot of interesting stuff going on that outshines the Next.

My answer: I'm not sure.

Someone actually just uploaded all of Nexus on Youtube with English subs, so I am about to delve into it for the first time. Anticipations are high. I really want to see "The Next" movie, but have been unsuccessful finding and english sub copy. Do you have to see the movie first to enjoy the series?
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

I wouldn't think that you would, but it does provide some background that becomes important later on (if I remember).

I can't be certain because I watched the next first, and I watched them both together years ago.

I love the Ultra N Project. I wished the series wasn't canceled early mainly for the fact that we didn't see much of Ultraman Noa. I also felt that Dark Zagi felt a little too weak at the end....

As for your question, I really can't pick one over the other since they both are part of the Ultra N Project.

I have the entire Nexus series now to watch, but am waiting until I can find a site that has "The Next" movie. Youtube only has a Thai version currently :(
