Those guys could be hired by ILM for all we know. We don't know who is running the show in the department for now.

I see some very impressive work in their filmographies (Starship Troopers, Men In Black, Hellboy 2, etc.)

It's most certainly about time and budget when it comes to this stuff. A lot of the effects in The Thing prequel/remake were supposed to be done practical and in the end the studio decided to go CGI with most of them. As MFW pointed out, there are other things in the resume which were very good for practical effects.

I really don't think they were primarily responsible for a lot of those films. Sure, they have some great successes, but I'm just not a fan of their work. Their Aliens and Predators, their bread and butter, always looked cheap to me, progressively so in each film.

I think the longer they've been away from Stan Winston, the shoddier their work has gotten.

I'd love to proven wrong though.

Tremors they are credited for creature effects
Death Becomes Her they are credited for makeup effects (the best part of the movie)
Alien: Resurrection they are credited for alien effects (amazing work)
Evolution they are credited for the effects, period.
Starship Troopers they did the practical effects work (amazing stuff)

The early versions of The Green Goblin (the stuff that people actually LIKED) they were responsible for that.

Yes, they consider AVP and AVPR to be their crowning work for some reason (though I must admit, the effects work in AVPR was probably AMAZING...but the lighting was so terrible you couldn't actually SEE any of it).

I think they are a more than capable company. It seems like all of their films that have "issues" are the ones where the budget wasn't there, or the director didn't care, or the Straus Brothers were involved.

Tremors is a good example of solid work from them.

The Newborn Alien in AR is an example of something laughably bad.

I don't even think their Green Goblin looked decent.
