Ghosts of Mars is like watching your favorite singer trying to drunkenly stammer through his own song on karaoke night. A lot of its defenders think because it has a lot of JC's tropes, that means its good... which is a lie.

In The Mouth of Madness was the last gasp of creativity for ol' JC. Village of the Damned and onward and its all lazy, uninspired sh*t.

Cigarette Burns is great and Vampires is FUN, but it isn't GOOD by any means.

The guy just sucks now... as a person and a film maker. I'll always worship him for his past, but I've pretty much lost all respect for him as a film maker. And the fact that he admittedly half asses his films for a quick check, yet expects people to pay him to see those films is downright insulting.

James Woods definitely makes the movie, agreed on that score. And yeah, the direction is actually not too good.

But the score is great...and that's a sign that Carpenter hadn't totally given up yet.

Well considering the Ghosts of Mars score was mostly done by work for hire metal musicians and that none of his Masters of Horror episodes or the Ward were scored by him, it looks like he's given up that profession also.

Watched -
The Addams Family Values - Alright, not as good as the first, but there's still fun to be had.

Secret Window - It is what it is.

Army of Darkness - Such a bizarre movie, and while I enjoy it, I still love Evil Dead 2 the most of the trilogy.

The Horror of Frankenstein - A much better reboot than Hammer's attempt with Dracula. I was pretty surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Though it of course doesn't come close to Cushing's best.

^No way, man!

Anyway: Wings of Desire

Beautifully, beautifully, beautifully directed and photographed and edited and... err, what's a short way of saying the combination of score and sound effects? That's done brilliantly, too.

The story is about angels who watch over the citizens of Berlin (pre-wall coming down), day-in and day-out, listening in to their thoughts and just taking note of what they do. One angel begins to fall in love with a trapeze artists.

... naturally, Peter Falk and Nick Cave are involved.

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Casino Royale - Amazing movie. Just simply amazing. Daniel Craig premiers in what is one of the best Bond movies of all time.

V for Vendetta - One of the best comic book movies ever. Top notch acting, an excellent score, and Hugo Weaving is just incredible as V. The pacing is well done, the spirit of the comic is in there, and it is also interesting to watch it the night before the election.
