It is kinda sad that I can't think of a single director who has done mostly horror films his entire career who started 20-30 years ago and is still making GREAT movies.

Romero gets a bit of a pass, as I think a lot of what made his old films great is still there, he tries new things, and the passion is there, but I can't say he's done anything GREAT in a while...I know a lot of people thought Survival of the Dead was crap, but I thought it was the closest thing to his original Living Dead trilogy that he's done...

Romero is the closest to one who hasn't lost his luster...I still seek out his new films, and I still have genuine hope when he announces a new project.

Cronenberg, Raimi, and Scott; much as I enjoy their work, don't really fit on the list anymore...they were great horror directors, but they've since moved on.

I watched 28 Days Later yesterday - I still like it. It's got these moments of great atmosphere and fear punctuated by these moments of complete respite and beauty, it's a nice juxtaposition that really makes those moments of terror pop. Combined with a great score and top-flight directing, it's my favorite non-zombie zombie movie.
Gills.

^ I love the soundtrack for 28 Days Later. Probably my favorite film soundtrack.

Just got back from Frankenstein/The Bride of Frankenstein. I think the original is great, but when you show the sequel right after it kinda gets swamped because there is just so much awesome in that movie. The best Universal horror flick - just one of the best classic films, period.

The Frankenstein pictures (the first three - and kinda Abbot and Costello Meet, too) are the crown jewels of these movies.

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.
