Manhunter - it's a cool film, interesting to see someone other than Hopkins in the role of Hannibal. Brian Cox does a good job. It's a touch too 80s and I get the feeling (after watching Red Dragon) that perhaps the ending here is actually kinda cribbed from the ending of Silence of the Lambs, since they didn't know they would ever make that particular film.
Silence of the Lambs - what can be said about this movie? It's an absolute symphony and every beat and note is perfect or nearly so.
Hannibal - if Silence of the Lambs is a perfect symphony then this film is a high-school band recital. it just seems bloated and lacks a sense of urgency.
Red Dragon - Manhunter is more or less superior in every way. Especially score and atmosphere, which are the two most important things in a movie for me
Hannibal Rising - ****ing terrible. leaving aside how bland and formulaic the entire film is, how can we possibly believe that someone could go on the systematic murdering spree that Hannibal does in this film, and be as notoriously well-known for it as he is by the film's end, and then just go on to move to America and become a respected doctor? He's a multiple murderer wanted by probably three or four different countries in Europe, yeah, authorities would just allow this guy to set up a practice and actually work for them without doing a background check, or doing one and being like "Hmmm...wanted for murder throughout Europe...must be some other Hannibal Lector"

The Curse of Frankenstein

My Halloween viewing begins with the Hammer version of the ('the', I say!) Official Halloween Monster! You know the drill: based around Cushing's magnetic performance as Baron Frankenstein, the sociopathic S.O.B. rather than the monster itself. The shift to being all about the creation of the monster rather than being about the monster was a quite brilliant move on the part of the folks at Hammer; the acquisition of various body parts, the surgeries, killing the monster and bringing it back to life - this real, trial-and-error process. It this other aspect of the story in such an interesting way. Universal could never get this explicit about the particulars of monster making.

Though he gets little screentime, I do have a lot of love for Lee's portrayal of the monster (or, as I call him: Junior). He really sells the whole idea that this fella was not put together quite right.

Still, they get bolder and better in the next few entries (IMO). Not my favorite Hammer Horror, but a pretty good one.
