It depends on the movie for me. The slasher movies I gravitate to are the ones with an emphasis on character rather than simply being body count films. The first and third Nightmare On Elm Street films, the original My Bloody Valentine, and the Burning are prime examples of this. Strong characters as well as strong suspense.
And if you ARE gonna be a body count movie, you better be coming at with a healthy dose of fun, humor and inventiveness (this is why I love certain (but definitely not all) Friday the 13th films... they're funny and they know it).
