Just found out about this.

Now, THIS is a remake/reboot I can support. Van Helsing was a good idea, just not well executed. There's plenty of things to like about the movie, even though overall it's an overwrought, overly flashy, tongue-in-cheek mess.

If the movie is actually what we all expected the original to be about - Abraham Van Helsing's backstory - this could be awesome. I can easily imagine Tom Cruise putting in a good performance as Dr. Van Helsing, especially if they play it fairly straight and seriously, sort of like a Gothic horror historical piece. I mean, there can be action, but this idea begs for a bit more sophistication: I mean, the principal characters here are Dr. Van Helsing, Baron Frankenstein, and Count Dracula - these are characters that simultaneously live in worlds of class and worlds of blood.

I wonder who they'll get to direct?

i can't believe i missed a thread where someone badmouthed Goonies...anything but the highest of praises for that movie is too little.
