bought the blu-ray, watched it, still loved it.

i'll grant that i haven't seen a ton of movies this year (Chronicle, Hunger Games, Cabin in the Woods, Prometheus, Dark Knight Rises, and then some comedies), but this is still in my top 3 (sorry Prometheus...I liked it a lot, but it doesn't edge out TDKR, Cabin, or Avengers for me).

One thing this movie gets absolutely right that MOST summer blockbusters don't anymore is that it never gets too bogged down in seriousness or trying to be overly suspenseful or insanely epic...it's more about the SPECTACLE, and I know we can start a huge argument about epic vs. spectacle, but i'd argue that movies that try to be epic try to force in moments of tension and drama and intensity and you can probably put all of those adjectives in quotes for something like Transformers that tries to be EPIC when it has no business being anything but fun, or you can just state all those words for something like LOTR which is an epic story.

Avengers never tries to take itself overly seriously and that is its biggest success, it realizes what it is, and it just takes us on a magical ride like a summer blockbuster SHOULD.

It's a little too long, but I honestly don't know how much of the film i could or would cut...maybe just seconds here and there during some of the action scenes amounting to a grand total of 10 minutes...oh and i'd re-edit the whole thing where Loki is in the helicarrier, because he basically gives away the farm on trying to unleash the Hulk before Black Widow ever talks to him (biggest flaw of the entire film right there).

it's not perfect, but it more than accomplishes what it sets out to, and i think managing to NOT fall flat on its face under the weight of all these big-name characters and actors is a testament to Whedon's abilities.
