Deep Sea Monster Reigo- A crushing disappointment. More thoughts in the thread for it.
Deep Sea Monster Raiga- :puke: - see thread for a more detailed explanation.
Solaris (1972)- Simply breath taking. This movie certainly isn't for everybody since it is paced slower than molasses, but from what I know, the director Andrei Takovsky was playing with things like pacing to create a certain mood and dream-like feel to the film. It certainly worked on me, because I was simply entranced and immersed in the entire thing to where I almost felt like I was in a dream. A lot of beautiful, static shots of nature and the amazing looking ocean planet are a true sight to behold on Criterion's Blu-Ray. I'd never seen it before, but I always wanted to. When I saw that the booklet had an appreciative essay by Akira Kurosawa, that sealed the deal for me. Again, the pacing isn't for everybody and it is one of those sci-fi movies made in the classic tradition, meaning that it raises more questions than it answers. But it was a fascinating film... a truly truly haunting film. Makes me curious to see the Soderbergh remake with George Clooney (even though, from what I understand it is the "Hollywood version" so to speak).
Beasts of the Southern Wild- One of the best movies of the year. I posted more thoughts in the appropriate thread, but it is a real gem and deserves multiple Oscar noms. Reminded me of Grave of the Fireflies in a few ways. Amazing performances, fantastic SPFX (more impressive considering the shoe string budget), and just a real emotional and original film... see it if it's playing anywhere near you.
Slither- I forgot how much fun this movie is... a real blast!
