These are obvious attempts at making characters that are like, but not too much like, the Toho monsters for rights reasons (notice "surrogate"). In the end I suppose even these were too close for comfort: that Angilas turtle looses it's spikes and becomes a more generic snapping turtle in the issue.

A lot of people may be turned off by how the characters and the monsters look different from panel to panel, but I dig Bissette, and this Godzilla comic was the first time I saw his work.

The Mothra is perfect! The Anguirus...not feeling the tail but I like parts of it alot. More Gamera ish in a lot of ways really. The KG...yeah, not feeling it.
