That's what I loved. There's this really weird normality to him (the way he reads Gordon's speech) the comment on the singing, the look he gives Talia at the end. But you see its wrapped up in a monster. Which is the coolest thing about Bane that really makes him worthwhile in this universe. He's a monstrous villain, an intelligent villain, to be sure, but still monstrous.

The Talia thing had me floored. Mostly because we were specifically told that she was NOT going to be Talia. Some people I know, who didn't know that the Talia twist was flat-out denied up and down, said they figured it out, but I personally was FLOORED.

The ending with the explosion is, I think, a case of the filmmaker simply purposely misleading the viewer. I don't think Batman was in the Bat for most of the time it was flying out...I think, if you're thinking that Alfred imagined seeing Bruce, you're reading too much into it, as there's no indication such a thing was the case, and the autopilot mention kind of blows that up. Why would Nolan bother with telling us the autopilot worked if Bruce was just gonna die?

And, as for "Robin". I think that was little more than a tip of the cap. It seems to be rather obvious (to me) that Blake would be taking up the mantle of Batman and not going by Robin.

I think the message here, is that Gotham will ALWAYS need Batman around, but Bruce finally came to the realization that he no longer wants/needs Batman in his life. I love that.

The important message here fokes, he loved it.

As for the ending: The reason I think he is dead is that just before the explosion, when it is clear the Bat is pretty far out over the ocean, we see Batman in the cockpit. He has no time to escape. I mean, I don't think I'm over thinking it. I wouldn't have even considered it had it not been for that shot.

The thing is I know he could survive, but not the way the film is cut. It just...doesn't make sense. Maybe if he had a fridge I could buy into it. ;)

And as for Joker I honestly don't think he would run the court room scene given his modus operandi in TDK. I think Bane wouldn't have wanted him near the League's stuff because Nolan's Joker would have just wanted to mess with things. Joker would have done something like track and steal the real atom bomb. Release the cops. Anything that would have thrown a wrench into Bane's plans.

Also Selena and Bruce's relationship doesn't really blossom all that much after Alfred leaves. Not so much that he couldn't imagine it. I mean, Selena clearly intrigues Bruce and she was really the last woman in his life that wasn't secretly a villain.

And, Yeah, I get that it isn't Inception, BUT Like I keep saying. We see the Bat fly far out over the water. We cut to Bruce in the cockpit. Then we cut back to BAT flying further out until it explodes. When I saw the film the first time I assumed Bruce got out when the Bat crashes through that building, but the second time I noticed the cutting wouldn't allow for it. In the end, I guess I don't want to accept that Nolan would be like "Well screw this realism thing. Batman just swims away from an atom bomb."

I want to be clear that my belief in this ending only comes from what the film presented me with. I like either ending, honestly.

Also, who are you considering Ubu? Is it Ken Watanabe as the decoy Ra's?

It was cut that way because you are not supposed to know he survived until the final minutes.

HEY here's something I thought of that didn't make much sense...

If Bane was all about the lower society rising up and abolishing those in power to "reset" the city, why was he going to blow up the city regardless?

Just got back from seeing it, and I think it was always just about revenge against Batman and Bruce Wayne. Destroy everything Wayne/Batman fought for or cared for and make him watch it crumble and then blow it all up. Lower citizens rising up was just a tool, a means to an end and not the goal.

Yeah, Selina tells Batman why she took the fingerprints after he first rescued her from Dagget's men. It was the scene where she disappeared on him and he says, "So that's what that feels like."
