FINALLY saw it (that one day wait felt like an eternity

)
Saw it in a REAL Imax... THE way to do it if you have the benefit.
Anyway, I really can't add much that hasn't been said before.
I loved it. I pretty much echo everything KG said earlier (and I'm much too lazy to rephrase it in my own words

). Where him and I diverge though is that this might be my least favortie of the trilogy.
Having said that, I don't want anybody to take that as a negative. It is still a more than solid film and it was a perfect wrap up for this series.
Loved Bane... there were maybe 5 or 6 lines that I didn't understand and even the extra-loudness of his voice felt fine to me as the movie went on. But he was just as mean, intimidating and scary as he should have been. Loved Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. Loved Cotillard (was anybody
really surprised by who she really was)? And Gordon-Levitt was awesome as well. Everybody was awesome, as is the case with all of these films.
The performances were great. Alfred was definitely the emotional core of the film, even if he doesn't have a lot of screen time (I also didn't mind him leaving, as he makes it very clear and rational as to why he has to do it).
Loved the
courtroom scene cameo... I wonder if that's what they planned for the Joker... they don't seem to admit it now, but when TDK came out Nolan did say he had plans for the Joker in a very small role in this film an
d the judge in the court room would have been perfect for him. But I liked that they got
Scarecrow since now he's in all 3.
Now I can finally go all out on the ending...
I got the ending I wanted

- To clarify, I always HATED the idea that a lot of fans had that
Batman would die in this movie.... even if it was done in a way to redeem him to the public, it never felt like something that would be done more than shock value. I hated the idea so much that the potential of it would have probably ruined the movie for me, which is why I looked up the spoilers too it in the first place... I was simply scared. But they gave Bruce
a happy ending, which I think a lot of people wouldn't expect from this series... hell, you could even call it SAPPY. But to me, it all works.
Bruce deserves it after what he's been through and it is one thing that he always wishes he had, but the need to crank out more comics will never let him have it. And I even loved that he was still seeing Selina... yeah, call me a sap, but for all the supposed "darkness" of this series, it really needed an ending like this. Bruce and Selina finally got to run away and be happy like they always want in the comics but simply can't due to the nature of comic book storytelling.
I'm a little more mixed on the
Robin thing though... Not because it is different from the comics, but I just think it was such an odd choice to
make Blake's real name Robin... I still enjoyed it though (although I wonder if that might have been a studio decision to leave SOMETHING open at the end, even if they aren't planning a continuation). Either way, it really hammers home that Batman accomplished his goal of inspiring people to do what they can to do the right thing. Even though we probably wouldn't get it, I'd totally watch a movie with him as Robin/Nightwing/New Batman, whatever.
If I'm forced to have complaints, my biggest would be the odd pacing. I like that it takes its time to slowly build to each big sequence, but I don't think I was really expecting it, so there were a few times where it kinda threw me off. That's really the only issue I had with it... not even that it felt too long, just that the start/stop pacing of it threw me off at a couple points.
I think the main reason I prefer the first two films is that the plot itself (throw Gotham into chaos) thing didn't feel different enough from how it was portrayed in the first two films... The middle portion of the movie just kinda seemed very "samey"- not a knock, because I understand that it is the whole theme of the series, but I think that might be why I didn't seem as roped into the middle part of the film (although the first and third acts are amazing).
Still, great film and I can't wait to own it. Even if it is my least favorite of the trilogy, it did more than I needed it to (which was at least be this series' Jedi, an expectation that was surpassed), and I'm extremely happy that my favorite superhero is the first to have a great film trilogy to his name.
PS- There was a power outage in the middle of the film... although I wasn't spooked, there was definitely a vibe of uneasiness in the theater and a few people even ran straight for the exits.
