I like the 05 film, honestly, but then again I don't think King Kong is a untouchable masterpiece.

Despite it having wonderful effects sequences the likes of which no one had seen up to that time the original Kong is in basic terms a simple, direct adventure story, and that's a good thing. It works.

PJ's version, while not a bad film, is too bloated. There is quite simply way to much going on for what should be a breezy adventure story.

... also, I thought Kong was made too sympathetic. In the original Kong showed just the right amount of savageness and tenderness. He's too nice in the new movie. I usually like more sympathetic beasties in my monster movies, but I think in this case the original got the balance right.
