Which Spider-Man Animated series is your favorite?

Postby O.Supreme » Thu May 31, 2012 11:00 am

Greetings All,

With The Amazing Spider-Man film set for release in July, I think many people were hoping Marvel/Disney would take advantage of the hype to release some more of the Spider-Man animated series on DVD (many of which are available on Netflix USA). But so far it does not appear this way. So this is your chance to vote on your favorite, and comment on why you like a particular version.

Me personally, I give my vote to the 1993 series which aired on Fox Kids. The animation was great, and so were the stories. Unfortunately it wasn't always true to the comics (Hobgoblin before Green Goblin etc..), but it was still very well done overall and eventually featured everyone in Spidey's Rogues gallery of the time except Sandman (who supposeddly was in reserve for Jim Cameron's Spider-Man film which never happened). I have liked all the other verisons to some degree or another. MTV's version was a bit ugly considering Mainframe had produced other wonderful looking series like Beast Wars & Shadow Raiders. Plus its ending was a downer. "Spectacular"-a lot of people seem to like, but the ugliness of the character designs IMHO was offputting depite better than average writing on that show. As for Ultimate... It may be too soon to say. The animation is absolutely great, but the stories have been a little silly at times, but it has shown potential to get better, only time will tell.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Spider-Man (1993) will always and forever be the best despite all the production flaws.

Spectacular is the best adaptation of the character in non-comics medium. It was modernized and often improved some things (Electro,Mysertio), but nevertheless it truly captured the feel of the original Lee/Ditko/Romita run.

I stopped watching the MTV one pretty quickly. I can't even remember why, it just didn't hold my interest even as a kid.
