I hate to say it, but I don't mind Van Helsing. It's truly a dumb movie, but it's not completely unentertaining.* And they actually did a lot of surprising practical effects and camera moves that I thought were CGI but wound up being real-world stuff.

Tom Cruise is weird but at least he isn't a complete a-hole like Mel Gibson who has become such an a-hole that for me it colors seeing any of his movies now.

* I'm not sure I can completely say it was entertaining so had to form the sentence in a double negative. :P

I love (and yeah, LOVE) the first 10 minutes or so of Van Helsing. If it had been a short film that ended there, I'd be clamoring for some sort of feature-length version.
Unfortunately, there's another 2 hours or so in that movie and it is almost entirely horrible.

Both of those (The Goonies and Super 8) are totally worth a watch. Especially Goonies.
