Not only that, but now without the red underpants, his super bulge happens to show... like, a lot.

I thought they did a fine job of modernizing the costume and keeping it classic with Routh's Superman Returns costume.... it is leathery and bumpy and they made the red dark enough to make it look less goofy, but it still has the classic look to it. And for as many complaints people had about that movie (and there were A LOT), I never once heard anyone complain about the costume or the red undies.

Superman is the most recognizable superhero of all time. At this point, I think his costume (however silly it might be when you think about it) has transcended the stage where anyone can look at it and laugh. Superman is Superman and everyone knows what he looks like and nobody really seems to have a problem with it.

Routh's costume was a perfect modern version of the classic suit. It struck the perfect balance between new and old sensibilities. Say what you want about the movie, but they nailed the costume.

I think this new costume blows away the Superman Returns costume, I really didn't like it.

The maroon red, the small boots and S, the cape was too small and not regal enough and it made Routh (a dude with a solid build) look scrony.

This costume I'm really liking except for the scales being on the S and the boots, its just odd to me but everything else looks great. As for the undies, it doesn't bother me.
