I liken the black ooze to the T-Virus/G-Virus in the Resident Evil games. And the Engineers are pretty much the Umbrella organization, fiddling around and finding new and more horrific results each time.

As for how one person turns into a zombie and another doesn't, etc., each person was "infected" differently, so it makes sense.

Well since we ARE nitpicking, here's mine:

The "identical DNA" bit really bugged me. Watching Prometheus kind of came at an awkward time for me because I've been on a science kick lately and I recently learned that the human genome itself contains hallmarks of our evolution from apes. Basically, for the Engineers to have DNA that matched ours exactly, they would have had to evolved pretty much exactly the same way.

Continuing from that thought, though the humanoid Engineers didn't bother me, part of me kind of wishes their design had really been the Space Jockey from alien that wound up being a mere body suit. The scene from the opening could have happened the exact same way, just with the more alien-looking being and from there we could assume that we inherited SOME of their traits but that we were not, in fact, completely identical.

So yeah.

I dunno, I kinda like that Scott subverted that and just made it into a suit... that's the way it was always supposed to be anyway. That comes from years old discussions he and Giger used to have.
