I think this figure alone is a perfect example of how MH figures, even though they're "stylized", can often capture the look and spirit of a figure much better than their more "realistic" figure counterparts. Take for instance the Bandai showa Rodan. Sure, it might be more "realistic", but it's rather stiff and lifeless as a figure. In contrast, figures like this MH Rodan are just booming with life and energy. As far as capturing the spirit of showa Rodan, this one is at the top.
As far as I know, I don't believe any variants have ever been released besides this one (same with GFW Manda), and if there has, I've never seen it. I also believe it's one of the rarer, harder to come by MH figures. In Japan, I've only ever seen it once. Unfortunately, I had already blew my money earlier that day on other figures and was devastated that I would have to pass it up (the shopowner wouldn't hold it for me). I had no doubt that such a rare figure would be snatched up before I managed to make it there again. To my utter shock, it was still there the next time I was able to make the trek to this particular store and was able to nab him
