Just got back from the midnight premier and marathon. The Avengers is an extremely fun comic book film that pays off well on all of the buildup starting from the first Iron Man film. The only complaint I can really make is casting Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. He's just too darn big for the role of a skinny egghead. Though to be fair, he otherwise nailed the part.

Robert Downey Jr. was, as usual great as Tony Snark, I mean Stark, and the rest of the team were all dead on target with their characters as well. Is it wrong to want Thor 2 to be the next movie coming out because I just
love Tom Hiddleston as Loki? He is a master of stealing every scene he is in, with the possible exception of his one on one confrontation with RD Jr.

The action is all well done, and the final climactic battle is everything you could hope for and more. Every hero is given time in the spotlight, and they all shine in their own ways. Joss Whedon has done a fantastic job both with directing, and helping to produce a great story, with every character their own person, and lots of humor to go with the drama.

It was more than worth it to stay up late for the premier and watching all the previous films helped me appreciate what Marvel has put together over the past four years.

I'm gonna give it to you guys straight... the movie isn't perfect or amazing, and the hype has been kinda ridiculous, but it was "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" FUN. I don't know where I would place it in the Marvel films ranking... Its not much better or worse than Thor, Incredible Hulk, or Iron Man. It is kind of more of the same... that being said, this is pretty much everything a big summer blockbuster should be. Whedon really nailed the team work aspect of it, which was my favorite part (why can't any of the X-Men movies seem to grasp this concept?) and all the heroes get equal screen time and time to shine. And Whedon's winky-nudgy jokey dialogue wasn't nearly as distracting as I thought it would be and more often than not, the jokes worked.

And yes, Hulk steals every scene he is in, and after showing everyone how awesome the Hulk is, Marvel are f*cking idiots for not going ahead with a Hulk sequel. To be honest, after Avengers, I really don't care about Cap 2, Thor 2, Iron Man 3, etc... but I would still love to see a new Hulk movie. The Incredible Hulk came out at a time when nobody cared about the Hulk, but after this movie blows up as one of the biggest blockbusters ever, NOW IS THE TIME TO GET IT MOVING. Tim Blake Nelson has been waiting for his phone call to play the Leader!

That being said, is it up to the hype? Not really. I'd say it falls into the "Good but not excellent" category that all the other films in this series have been. The hype has been idiotic. But it is damn fun and the film is everything it needed to be. I agree with sentaison in that its not only amazing that they got far enough to get this movie made, but that the movie actually turned out damn good.

Speaking of hype and crap, can I say something? How come every nerd site ever and every Facebook comment has to use the "greatness" of this movie to take a jab at the Dark Knight Rises for being darker and more serious? They are both totally different types of superhero films and there is a place for both the dark and the light. Batman SHOULD be dark and more serious and edgy and Avengers SHOULD be more light and breezy. Why can't someone enjoy both? And all this nerd rage about which movie is going to do better, etc. is f*cking dumb also... who gives a sh*t?
