Just finished listening to The Hobbit. I liked it...I was disappointed at first with the way Smaug was handled, but given the final climax, I ended up totally satisfied.

I finished A Game of Thrones, and I really liked it. I kept wanting more fantasy elements, but the last bit of the book showed promise of more, so I'm looking forward to the rest of the books.

I may even check out the tv show.

Koushun Takami, Battle Royale. I enjoyed the movie enough to want to check out the book, and I'm digging it so far.

Masked Decisions by Vincent Evans with Dick Beyer

Beating Gorgeous George in a mask vs. hair match. Defeating Rikidozan in Japan. Winning the AWA championship from Verne Gagne. Any one of those would qualify one for any pro wrestling hall of fame. Dick "The Destroyer" Beyer did all three. I got this (autographed!) last week, and I'm enjoying Beyer's life story, from football and wrestling standout at Syracuse University of mat legend and pop icon in Japan.

The Nasty Bits by Anthony Bourdain

The coolest man on the planet not named Keith Richards. Any book dedicated "to Joey, Johnny, and Dee Dee" is a must-read.

I just finished reading William Goldman's "The Princess Bride" and absolutely loved it, even more so than its film adaptation. I'm now reading the first Sherlock Holmes novel, "A Study in Scarlet", and am enjoying it, though it's not exactly taxing stuff. A nice, easy read.

I tried reading "Hard Times" by Dickens a while ago, and quit after about half...it didn't interest me in the slightest...

I've been meaning to get back into my stack of novels after going on a comics binge for a few months - but my upcoming art show of fairy and folk tale illustrations at me college has me delving into a bunch of books of that stuff. You see, I'm trying to cover as much of the globe as I can in my drawings and I'm searching for stories from certain places, so I've been delving into Best-Loved Folktales of the World, selected by Joanna Cole (mine), Folktales of Mexico, edited by Americo Paredes (library), American Indian Myths and Legends, selected by Richard Erdoes and Alfonso Ortiz (mine), A Treasury of Afro-American Folklore, by Harold Courlander (library), and Yiddish Folktales, edited by Beatrice Silverman Weinreich (library).

I'm currently reading Harry Potter IV. Once I get caught up on True Blood episodes I'm going to start reading before bed rather than watching that.

I should be done with HP by the middle of August.
