Kinggoji (Godzilla 1962) - why so few/rare Bandai versions?

Postby Poe Ghostal » Mon Mar 26, 2012 1:26 pm

So here's a question...my first Bandai Godzilla was the 1962 figure from the early '80s. I had two of them over the course of my childhood (after shattering the first one in a sandbox), both purchased at Mr. Big Toyland in Waltham, MA.

Kinggoji seems to be one of the most popular designs, and yet aside from high-end collectibles there have hardly been any figures of him since that first Bandai figure. There have been a few X-Plus figures and the super-rare Godzilla Memorial figure (which still ticks me off), plus the Y-MSF figures, but - for example - Bandai Creations has never given us a Kinggoji, though we've gotten multiple Shodaigojis.

It seems to me Toho is still pretty proud of King Kong vs. Godzilla as the most successful G-film ever; why not produce more mass market product for it?

For me, a MonsterArts Kinggoji would be a dream come true, but I just don't see it happening if we can't even get a freely-available 6" Bandai vinyl.

Well there's plenty of other King Gojis, M-1, Gigabrain, Marmit (VP, Parababy, and MH)

But, I think if they do start doing Showa MonsterArts I would expect us to have a pretty decent chance of getting 54, 62, and 64. Those seem to be the favorites. So I think you have a better hope than say somebody who wants a 55 or 65.

Bandai produced a '62 in the 8" and 6" series, M-1 made one. Marmit has done one in every line. Bare Model did one. Gigabrain did one and has pumped out so many variants that it's impossible to count them. Pilot did one. CCP did one. Megahouse did a nice big one. X-Plus did one.

So Bandai Creation didn't do one. Oh well.

I agree. G'62 is largely overlooked in favor of Goji from the '90's. Way too many of those and the 2000's versions. I have yje same concern for the original King Ghidorah. There are far too many of the 90's versions out there and not enough based on the original design.
