So, for my job, I'm trying to create a job board of sorts that will basically give a little bit of insight on where a specific bid/proposal stands on proposal generation...it's basically going to list the sales person involved, the estimator involved, the status of the estimate, the status of the design, the status of the proposal, etc.

What I'd like is to have this thing generate a proposal number, and I'd like that proposal number to basically spit out the day's date and then a number based on what proposal of the day it is.
For example, if I created a proposal today, i'd like the proposal number to be 030812-01, if I created one tomorrow, it'd be 030912-01, if I created a second one today, it'd be 030812-02.

Is there a formula to do this so that the number doesn't have to be entered manually?
Remember, using the "NOW" or "TODAY" formulas won't work because I need those numbers to be locked in every time they are generated. Once generated, they cannot be changed...
Gills.
