Of course!!

And I'll further deepen the hole I'm digging for myself. I'd rather watch Daredevil than Batman Begins. And I like Batman Begins. A lot.

There are several things I like about DD. Give me a sec and I'll try and explain some of them.

Ok. I thought about comparing this to other superhero films but I'm going to try and largely discuss this film on its own merits.

First,

Visuals: Ok, I think almost everyone should be able agree that this film has some wonderful visuals. Probably the best of any comic book film. Seriously, there are several instances of scenes taken directly from the comics and translated brilliantly onto the screen. DD on the Cross. The final scene of DD firing his billy club. The "suiting up" scenes. Some of the shots of DD's suit, where the costume is shrouded in darkness, but the eyes have an eerie, almost demonic glow to them. The scenes of DD's POV in the rain. It's all good and I love the Seven-esque color filter the film uses to give it a gritty, urban feel.

Story: I love it. It's a best of DD compilation. Kingpin. Check. Elektra. Check. Bullseye. Hells to the check. He's over the top but its wonderful. This story really does some interesting things by presenting a vigillante, and then through the story's progression, forming him into a hero. This film is a prequel to DD's story really. It's kind of like Batman Begins in that regard.

Daredevil: I love the costume. It looks functional, though a little too leathery for my taste and the DD symbol isn't large enough, but those are minor nit picks. Now as far as the actual character himself. Again, I love the depiction of DD in this film. He's a monster at the begining of the film. He sleeps in a bloody coffin. He kills people. He beats the hell out someone in front of their own kid. He hates his life and seems cursed. (I get chills everytime I see the scene of the girl, in DD vision, crawling past his coffin as he tries to go to sleep) Some might argue that that's not DD. DD is more of the swashbuckler type, but by that logic, you could say that Adam West's Batman represents the only true Batman. Sure, DD is a rogue-ish, free spirit in comics depending on the writer but he's also a very dark anti-hero at times too. This film actually manages to feature both versions of DD. He's a fractured, tormented soul that wants to be happy but can't and he's not all whiny about it. He bottles it all inside and we see how that affects his relationships.

I love that on one hand, he can have a playful fight with Elektra in a park. But the night before, he closed the lid to his coffin as he heard the cries for help from a dying woman, effectively turning his back on someone who needed help.

Which is another thing I love about DD in this film. He feels like a real person. He doesn't always do what's noble. He tries, but he fails. Sometimes he's selfish. He's given his whole life to protecting the weak. Unlike Bruce Wayne, his day job is as a defender of justice too. and he has to do it all alone. He has no Alfred. And that makes his nightlife all the more heroic in someways. I like seeing all the scars riddiling his back, that he spits out a tooth in the shower and has to down pain meds just to sleep.

He turns his back on people, goes to far occasionally, shacks up with Elektra instead of helping someone in the theatrical version. He's a good guy. But he's human.

Also, he has an actual character arc with a decent moral message. He goes from being a monster, to something a little more human by the end of the film, though far from a perfect hero still.

Machismo: With lines like "That light at the end of the tunnel, that's not heaven...that's the C train!" And "I don't ask for mercy father, others ask it of me!!" Seriously, if you don't feel your balls drop a little on those lines then there's something wrong with your man card.

This film has some great, if not a little too wire fu-ish fights. Each fight is distinctive and has personality.

Eh. I'm getting tired lol.

Lets see, other highlights. Music ain't bad. I don't think there's a bad preformance acting wise in the bunch. Some are better than others but this isn't Shakespeare. It's a fun movie. I think this movie does a decent job of using a pop song or two, though I hate when films do that usually. The film is funny, and well...fun. It takes itself seriously when it needs to but it has some nice light hearted moments too.

I don't like everything about the film (I hate the wire fu for instance) but as a whole, just a big bucket of awesome :D

Straw Dogs (the new one) - pretty boring. then it turns into every other home-invasion movie. blah.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) - God I love being a turtle.
Gills.

The Artist

Charming salute to old Hollywood films. Hopefully it'll get people interested in silent film.

Ah, I remember in 2007 buying the DVD for Pan's Labyrinth at Wal*Mart, a DVD located under a piece of construction paper with the words "this movie is Spanish language only" written in sharpie.
