Planet X Leader: This wouldn't have been a six-page whatever if Jared hadn't plastered my comments (out of context) in the first place, which necessitated straightening out, and then answering all of Jared's rebuttals. Oh well... :D

One last time for the record; as having "insider" access to Tsuburaya for many years, I can tell you that with the first wave of success with the films, ZEARTH through COSMOS, the budgets increased, respectively, and then came to a stop. After this, the budgets were scaled back, and the filmmakers were told to make due. When I talk about a downward spiral in quality, I'm talking about overall, across the board (writing, direction, production values, etc.). Again, for those who didn't bother reading the previous posts, that doesn't mean that because of this, the films suck, are complete trash, and if you enjoy them, you're a moron. Never said that.

Just because some of you can't see it, it doesn't mean that it's not so, and more power to you — as I said over and over — I'm glad that people are enjoying these films, regardless of their individual quality (or lack thereof). Most of you have only seen these films on DVD or BD, whether it be legit, duped or downloaded, and on relatively small monitors. While everything looks great when observed on such small platforms, these films were made for theatrical presentation on screens many, many times bigger than your home monitors. This amplifies any blemishes these productions may have — revealing poorly masked green screen shots, poor rendering in CGI elements, and poorly lit and photographed sets.

If these films were made for television or direct-to-video, they would be perfectly acceptable. Unfortunately, as Motion Pictures, they fall short of the mark. I just expect more — not anything "ground breaking", but let's have some writing above the 5-10 year-old target these films are made for, and some respect for the intelligence of the audience. If you're going to work some fanservice in, great, but let's do it tastefully and so it makes sense. Just because I expect better, doesn't mean that all of you have to boo me. Just look at the Original Video ULTRA SEVEN spin-off series. While they were low-budget, the stories and the writing were excellent. If they had the budget of one of these films, you'd have one of the best Ultra Series productions ever made.

But, these films are made for grammar school kids, anyhow. So, why should I be complaining? How dare I expect something better. :P

You and Jared are like the spark that causes on online wildfire, August. Though honestly I don't see anything wrong with quoting somebody from a public source, but apparently some people misunderstood despite the entire posts put on display, but oh well. :\

Well, I think the matter of whether the Ultra series is in a "downward spiral" straddles a line between concrete fact and opinion.

When I said Super 8 was fantastic, I wasn't merely trying to defend it from a label of "sucks," but looking at it as a whole. Held up to Battle In Hyperspace, it is just as good if not better—as a whole.

I really wanna mention how much gravity there is to Super 8. I'm thinking seeing all the displaced people in Yokohama, seeing the scrambling doctors and nurses, seeing Jack's wife clinging to life, and all this after bonding with all the characters throughout the whole movie... I think it's superbly written. It took the premise of Mobius and the Ultra Brothers and made a very engaging, character-driven story with protags we care about and wild and vivid effects to boot.

And don't tell me "it's fine if you like it, but it doesn't mean it's good!" :P

As for seeing on the big screen, well, I can vouch for witnessing the glorious Bluray of the HD-filmed Zero the Movie projected onto a ten-foot screen and I can say that it excelled past Ultra Galaxy Legends, where the flaws were apparent even with the so-so transfer I first saw it on. I think it's safe to say the SFX can be fairly judged.

I'm off to go make money! I shall check the status of the raging fire later!

Ugh..I don't like (ok, I do like, but I'm not a HUGE fan) Ultraman Next because it's not fun...simple as that. A film about a giant, transforming superhero fighting a giant monster should be more fun.

The Next isn't a film I describe as fun. :/ It's not BAD, but it's just not the Ultraman I love. There's really not much more Kyle or I can say to get this across. The changes that were made just don't feel right.

Well, the FUN comment wasn't really in response to anything you or Kyle said. Like I said before, It's fine to say Ultraman the Next doesn't embody what I love about Ultraman, but it irks me to hear (or read, in this case) people saying Ultraman The Next ISN'T Ultraman.

Yeah, I will go to the grave saying that The Next is an excellent alternate take on Ultraman. It's not a failed experiment that works on levels apart from the Ultra franchise to me, it is a legitimately well-done version of the character.

Just my 2 cents:

If they made THE NEXT (a project that was supposed to be different) more like a traditonal Ultraman outing, then doesnt that render the point of the movie null and void?

Isnt having different takes on the same character part of the appeal? Its not like the "traditonal" stuff is hurt by it.

"It doesnt feel like Ultraman to me."

Well, its kinda not supposed to.
