A Christmas Carol (1938)

The "one with Reginald Owen." This glossy MGM version kinda misses the point of the novel - everything's so damn bright an cheery and when the (way overplayed here) sentimentality comes in everything turns to fudge. A Christmas Carol relies on scenes of suffering and some creepiness, and when you take those out (like in this adaptation) the plot doesn't work.

Tin Tin

Boring, horrible movie. I really want to choke every reviewer I've seen who compared this movie to "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Let's see...I left the theater and bought some food, and then ultimately opted to go to sleep instead of being forced to continue watching this bland, unexciting film.

Also, allow me to rant about something here. It really, REALLY, pisses me off when studios announce that a trailer is attached to a film and yet, it's not on the print that you end up watching. Now I know this has a lot to do with the theaters themselves, and that's it's NEVER a guarantee, but I mean come on. In this day and age, why the hell can't you guarantee a trailer with a film!?!?! No Hobbit trailer before Tin Tin and no Prometheus trailer before The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Each time I felt like a kid who had his candy stolen from him when the trailers failed to play. GRRRRR. :x

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Not quite as good as the first - but perhaps a stronger central caper and villain. I prefer the style of these two Holmes movies over most modern action adventure films. They feel more like pulpy swashbucklers.

Apparently War Horse is one of the better films of the year.

That being said I have no intrest in seeing it and I agree, it looks like an SNL skit.
