Very interesting tidbit in bold. The Therns don't show up until THE GODS OF MARS. I wonder if they are sticking with Favreau's idea of folding the first three books into the first movie.

I don't get it. I was thinking the same as you, that they're cherrypicking from the first 3 books. But the cast and characters announced so far have been pretty well limited to just "Princess". Maybe they're laying the seeds for future films?

I'm dissappointed that is sounds like they're changing so much, especially the whole issue of inventing stuff willy nilly. Some minor changes are to be expected, mainly figuring out sections can be combined or even cut.

I can understand creating a few scenes for the first movie {assuming the first movie is focused on Princess} to introduce the character[s] to the general unread audience; unfortunately it sounds like Stanton is going way beyond that.

The way Strong describes Matai Shang's role getting bigger and bigger in the second and third movies it makes me wonder if the First Born are going to be severely altered or even the Therns & First Born combined entirely. Combining the Therns and First Born would be a real shame, since part of the second book's battle involve the Therns and First Born fighting each other.
