[quote="Mac"]The retards at Toho Kingdom were complaining about the commentaries and this is what SGIV had to say...hahaha:
[quote]Stuart Galbraith here – After perusing this thread and my eyes having finally stopped rolling, I feel compelled to address some – not all, but some – of the remarks concerning Media Blasters’ release of DESTROY ALL MONSTERS and GODZILLA VS. MEGALON as well as, peripherally, Criterion’s GODZILLA.
What it all boils down to is this: This endless bellyaching about everything and everything by some on this forum long ago passed the point of being merely mildly irritating and instead has been thrust headlong into the Kingdom of Wackyland, a total disconnect from all reason.
Clearly, no amount of time, money, and effort will please some of you. Others before me, having explained quite well a) the delicate and often absurd tightrope walked by any entity foolish enough to license from a company as obscenely and infamously difficult, greedy, and arbitrary as Toho; b) the marginally commercial – at best – nature of releasing classic kaiju eiga films to DVD and Blu-ray in today’s market, titles destined to sell, maybe, 1/50,000 as many units as TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON; and c) what you can do to maximize your viewing experience with regards to an admittedly imperfect DESTROY ALL MONSTERS, the best and only HD transfer Toho allowed Media Blasters access to. (Thanks, Toho.)
Some of you – and you know to whom I’m speaking – are less patient than my four-year-old daughter, demanding instant and, ultimately, insatiable gratification. (Actually, I’ve never seen my four-year-old respond like some of you. She’s never formed a boycott page on Facebook when she didn’t immediately get exactly what she wanted. At least I don’t think she has.)
Your DVD order is delayed a few weeks? My God, the world is coming to an end! You are, of course, entitled to your opinion about the delays, the transfer, the audio, et. al., but since you’ve already made that opinion infinitely clear to the rest of us over-and-over again ad nauseum – Is there anything you’ve not complained about? Perhaps the FBI warnings aren’t to your liking, either? – Please shut up so that the rest of us can have a serious conversion about the pros and cons of these and other DVDs and Blu-rays.
Multiple times both Media Blasters and Criterion were ready to cancel these projects outright, partly due to constant fan-boy bitching and interference. I don’t blame them.
As for my own commentary tracks, you can like them or not. If listening to new information about actors many of us have been wondering about for decades bores you, and if all you’re interested in is minutiae about rubber suits, miniatures and nothing else, don’t listen to David Kalet’s commentary on GODZILLA or the one Steve and I did for MEGALON. I’m telling you now: save yourself some grief. All of us, and that includes Ed Godziszewski as well, have broader interests than that, and strive to put these films into cultural/historical/industrial/cinematic context for a wide range of listeners, not just the hardcore Godzilla geek. I for one am quite happy with all the commentaries I’ve been lucky enough to be associated with.
And as for the most arcane complaints about these discs generally, unless you’ve actually done this work yourself, or your name happens to be Bill Ferguson – who, as far as I know, is the only “fanâ€
