All in all, Media Blasters' blu-ray of DAM is a terrific presentation. You do need to turn your brightness (black level) down a few notches or the picture will be too light, but once you do that, the picture is quite nice. The AIP dub is a terrific extra bonus (though, yeah - really wonky for the first 5 minutes or so).

And speaking of extras, they really have gone all out with this blu-ray. Terrific image galleries with posters, storyboards, production sketches and more. Love the trailers and radio adverts as well.

A big "thank you" to Media Blasters for this great release!

Amazon pulled this crap with DAM too. They changed the DVD release date from October 25 to November 8 of their own volition months before the fact, and walmart.com apparently copied their move. Media Blasters finished that DVD on time and RightStuf had it in stock by the original street date.

I'll buy the Megalon DVD from RightStuf and hopefully get it around the 29th.

I remember seeing that bloody cough the first time watching DAM televised when I was about 13, and have never noticed it since, and recently thought about it, wondering if it was edited out or that it had to do with the bad copies we had to live with before what we got.

Then I watched DAM on blu-ray last night for the first time and there it was, along with the best transfer I've seen so far of this movie; I'm enjoying the clarity and colors more than I've ever seen them before....it's still far from my favorite Showa movie, but it's still an enjoyable time. I toggled between the AIP dub, the international dub, and the Japanese dub, and settled in for the commentary.... Of course I prefer the AIP dub when choosing between the two, it's just too bad the source material for that was so compromised.

But back to that bit about the bloody cough for a sec...yeah, this movie gets a little gory, compared to others! Even if it's bright fake blood, the gunshot to the forehead and the open incision and implant removal were a little on the  side.

One thing I DID notice immediately, for obvious reasons, was the opening title, that slow turn of 3d Japanese characters and its glittery surface. Beats the CRAP out of what we've had to see up until now! :o

Now I'm going to go turn the brightness down and enjoy it for a second night. :D

OH.... Interesting that the cover art is from a movie poster, when for the longest time it was that art that...well, I like what we have now.
I know there's discussion about it, but I'm not about to go scrolling through several prior pages to get into that.
