Well, I watched Haunting in Connecticut. It's...dumb. There was really nothing good about this, but it was on, and I needed a halloween movie for today. So yeah.

So... haven't had much time for Halloween celebrations, so I'll squeeze 'em into this last week.

Kiss of the Vampire

This Hammer film has the perfect opening scene for a vampire movie, but the rest is kind of lackluster. The vampires are portrayed as a cult, a cult of boring rich white people. The drunken vampire hunter character is actually more interesting. Still, it looks great; there are graveyards and a spooky mansion so that really gets one in the Halloween mood.

There's a totally goofy finale, too.

Below is my list of movies I've watched as my horror celebration for Halloween.
The ones I've bolded are ones that I can definitely see myself keeping in some sort of regular, at least for Halloween, repeat-viewing. I doubt I'll watch all of them every year, but they are the movies that I'd recommend and as being well-within the spirit of what I like my Halloween movies to be.
Some of them (Bad Moon, specifically jumps out) aren't quite 'good' movies, but have excellent creature effects, or a fun story...just something that would make them a decent way to get into the Halloween spirit.
Others (American Werewolf in London, Creepshow) are quite simply MANDATORY October viewing.

I've watched quite a few "new to me" movies...for the most part, I think I'm done with that, as I'm getting antsy to watch all my favorite John Carpenter films, as well as Monster Squad, Mad Monster Party, and other 'this time of year' favorites.

* for repeat-viewing:
1.) An American Werewolf in London*
2.) Graveyard Shift*
3.) Cloverfield*
4.) Resident Evil*
5.) Interview with the Vampire
6.) High Tension
7.) The Manitou
8.) Stake Land
9.) Mulberry Street
10.) Bad Moon
11.) Alligator
12.) Prophecy
13.) Frogs
14.) The Abominable Dr. Phibes
15.) Ravenous
16.) Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
17.) Caltiki
18.) Black Death
19.) Sole Survivor
20.) Carnival of Souls
21.) Diary of the Dead*
22.) Deathdream
23.) Dr. Phibes Rises again
24.) The Ward
25.) Survival of the Dead
26.) The Pit
27.) Long Weekend
28.) Halloween (RZ)*
29.) Phantasm
30.) Creepshow*
31.) Quatermass and the Pit
32.) The Driller Killer
33.) The Nameless
34.) Predator*
35.) May

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein- Love this movie and Netflix had it in HD on their streaming which made it look even better.

Zeiram-Good god this movie is amazing!!! You know if life were fair...I think the Zeiram creature would rank right up there with Giger's Alien, Brundlefly and Carpenter's The Thing.....such an amazing creature design and suit preformance.

I think this is probably Keita Amemiya's best work....I know a lot of people love Garo, and it is ok, but Zeiram is his most balanced work. (He's like Ridley Scott..he often sacrifices plot and story for visuals)

Kamen Rider Zo-Another great Keita Amemiya film! These are my two favorite works of his (with Miyazuki probably being up there as well, but I've only seen the first episode...waiting for the sub crew to finish the series, at this rate it looks like they're doing 1 ep a year  )

Kamen Rider ZO is a great toku film...my first encounter with Kamen Rider...and honestly...I think as an introduction to KR is nearly perfect.

I do have some minor complaints...Doras (the big baddie in the film) is pretty much an insect clone of Zeiram...and while I like him as a villain, I can't help but wish they'd done something different here instead of the "evil" version of KR (In KR Black for instance, I love that the hero is the black, insect like monster and the villain is the guy in the shining suit of armor....and I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Shocker and other evil organizations as well)

But for this film's short run time it manages to do a lot with it. Great special effects, a very memorable theme, and one of the best leads in a KR film or series....the main actor here really pulls off the intended "big brother" vibe.

One last thing I can say about this film is that I like that it's kind of A Grimm Fairy tale meets Kamen Rider....just watch that opening of ZO waking up in a cavern and you'll see what I mean

Dodoro-one of the best Japanese fantasy films I've ever seen...wow!!

Next up...the horrible, but visually appealing Hakaider, and Zeiram 2!!!
