Troll 2

In this non-sequel to Troll a family is terrorized by goblins (explicitly not trolls) when they vacation in a small town that's actually the goblin kingdom... and by kingdom I mean there's like a dozen of them. What can I say? It came on the THIS network last night an I had to watch it.

It fells like it was written and directed by a ten-year-old boy.

A productive weekend...

Ghosts of Mars -- I did not remember that Jason Statham was in this! I also did not remember how HORRIBLE it is. ....horrible in a good way though. Ice Cube gettin O.G. all over Mars is the best part of the movie.

Star Trek II, III, and IV! What a great series of movies. Ricardo Montalban is wonderful as Khan--every line he speaks is gold! And the camaraderie of the TOS crew is so much fun to watch and be a part of over the three films. "Do you like Italian food?", "No" "Yes" "No" "Yes" ..."No"... "Yes!" ... ... ... "Yes..." Fun movies all around!

Captain America: The First Avenger

I really liked this one, this is probably one of my fav superhero films in recent memory due to the period setting and the old-fashioned pulp adventure plot. I'm glad they sorta glossed over Captain America's multi-year career as a superhero in the '40s and just focused on his origins and the final battle with the Red Skull - leaves room for sequels to take place! (perhaps he can meet Namor?)

50/50
A good movie. Well acted, pretty funny, and everything wrapped up fairly well. Nothing to be amazed with, but I felt it was good.

Both 35mm prints at The Heights Theater:

Gunga Din (1939) - RKO adventure film based on the poem by Rudyard Kipling. Cary Grant & Douglas Fairbanks Jr. make this adventure quite a show! And it was a CLEAR insiration for The Temple of Doom! Great fun!

The Lady Eve (1941) - a very fun screwball comedy starring Barbara Stanwick & (a very young looking) Henry Fonda. Don't really know how to sum up the complicated story, but it was good & you should watch it!

Because I haven't had a ton of time to track down movies I don't already own, my 31 days of Halloween thus far has been primarily movies I already own:

1.) An American Werewolf in London - obviously an amazing CLASSIC
2.) Graveyard Shift - an 80s (or maybe early 90s) Stephen King based film that urinates all over the story but is actually a decently entertaining creature feature on its own
3.) Cloverfield - i've never understood the hatred for this movie. it's not perfect, but it's a good time. one thing i thought of while watching it through this time that i thought would be a cool idea would be to have a movie that plays out like an anti-kaiju training film...stuff like what we saw in this movie interspersed with news feeds, so that as we see the character with the handheld get involved in the middle of a firefight, we see the news feed of what that firefight looked like...
Sorta like the District 9 of kaiju...that'd be neat
4.) Resident Evil - it's a perfectly acceptable film on its own, notwithstanding bad sequels and a huge departure from the game
5.) Interview with the Vampire - this is the first movie i watched that i had not already seen. it's good. it's a little slow at times, but the moments where it clicks, it REALLY clicks and keeps you riveted. not sure the casting all worked but it was an enjoyable movie.

Jail Bait -- early Ed Wood, so you know it's going to be good. But WTF with the minstrel show?!

1.) An American Werewolf in London
2.) Graveyard Shift
3.) Cloverfield
4.) Resident Evil
5.) Interview with the Vampire
6.) High Tension
7.) The Manitou

The Manitou was the most recent...if only it wasn't so boring for the first hour...i mean, the last half-hour is INSANITY (medicine men fighting, blood flying, translucent figures biting people's hands off, super-powered midget Indians, battles in starfields...) but the first hour of the movie is pretty much a snoozer.
