Watching Iris right now and the picture quality so far is excellent. Typical blu-ray quality, and it's filling the entirety of my 50" plasma. The menu that loaded after I put the disk in looked like total crap though. And the "case" for the two disk cases is essentially a slip cover as mentioned above, but I really do like the picture on the front.

I'll update this post later once I see some kaiju battle scenes. Oooh, just as I typed that the rear speakers on my 5.1 did some crumbling rocks sound effects. Very nice.

Edit: Just finished watching the whole movie, and that was a fun time. Picture quality is excellent, and the 5.1 is just as good. I love it when a movie reminds me why I have the rear speakers, and this movie did an effective job of that. After now having seen the entire Heisei Gamera trilogy, I can plainly see why its so highly regarded. The perspective shots and miniature effects in Iris were especially good.

I simply can't wait to have my own copy in my own hands. In the meantime, it would appear that some reviews of the blu ray have been posted online. Turns out the Gamera 3 blu ray may have some subtitle issues with some character lines being not translated at all.....

A bloody shame if this is true.....

I got my set in today, from Blowitoutahere.com. I was rather busy today so I only had time to pop it in and spot check stuff, but I hope to watch G3 soon. The video and audio appeared to be great. Since I haven't actually watched it through yet I can't comment on the apparent subtitle issue.

The extras add up to just under three hours! Something that may be confusing is on the back of the Trilogy box, they list every single segment presented in the extras, whereas on the menu screen it sums up, for example, all the extras into smaller categories. But they are all there.

Personally as far as the box quality goes, it was exactly as I was expecting. Not that I have low expectations, but this is a budget company and I've sene plenty of these boxes from people like Media Blasters.

The supposed subtitle issue aside, everything looks great to me.

Does Gamera 3 offer a dub too? I know GotU and G2 had them so I would assume that G3 has them as well.

Like I said I'll wait to see if they plan on fixing the sub issue before picking the set up.

The dub work in Gamera 3 is excellent. 'Nuff said.

I don't have a copy yet... but be honest: don't half of our R1 kaiju DVDs have two or three blatant and distracting subtitle errors?

"Common brief" is a favorite.

When CM reissued their films with the Japanese versions I made the mistake of watching them late at night only to fall asleep through most of them.
